- Successful completion of the B2 German language exam, often supported through Bridge Now’s partner language schools.
Two core reasons why age 40 is often seen as a limit for nurses traveling to Germany are:
- German visa rules require candidates aged 45 and above to meet a higher minimum salary threshold (around €53,130 annually), which is difficult to achieve at trainee or entry-level nursing assistant positions. This makes it harder for older nurses to qualify for a visa.
Employer and Visa Authority Preferences: Employers and authorities generally prefer younger nurses (typically 18–35 years) because they are seen as more adaptable, having longer career prospects, and easier integration potential. Candidates above 40 face closer scrutiny and must show strong motivation and qualifications.
The language exam can be taken at accredited centers such as GOETHE, ÖSD, TELC, or ECL, all recognized by ALTE (Association of Language Testers in Europe). Bridge Now will assist you in preparing and registering for the exam.
